The Ultimate Product-Market Fit: When Founders Build Product for Themselves
Limited Capacity seats available

An unlikely story - two teachers-turned-tech directors built a software platform for a school district just north of Cincinnati.  Not entrepreneurs.  Just two people trying to make their lives easier and free up the time for a lot of teachers so they could focus on the kiddos.  This led to a startup called Abre.

The biggest challenge for any startup isn't sales.  It isn't understanding finance and accounting.  And its not marketing.  If the product doesn't fit the marketplace you intend to serve then all the other things don't matter.  But for Abre, the product-market fit was built into the proposition.  The product was initially designed to make the jobs of the two co-founders easier and better for their internal customers, teachers.  That "fit" has translated to over 100 other schools adopting it and over 500,000 monthly active users in less than nine months of operations.  Now they spend their time focusing on all those other challenges as the fast growing startup grows up.

This panel style Q&A will reflect on those critical early decisions and experiences like "why open source it?", "how did you decide to start the company?" and "what have been the biggest challenges in leaving the school for a startup?"

From the West Coast to Cincinnati: A Story of Starts, with open Q&A
I am a creator. I am a builder. I am an inventor. My dad worked at a construction company, and my mom worked at a bakery. I was that kid that was always taking things apart to see how they worked, and while I rarely had trouble putting them back together again, I loved to see where improvements could be made. It helped me always question how things were, and what they were capable of.

That mentality will always remain a cornerstone of my career. Whether it’s a new app, experience, team or workflow, I will always ask myself “How can we make this better?” I believe that one of the reasons I am drawn to our industry and my roles within it, are that they allow me to ask “How can we make this better?” as part of my daily responsibilities.

I will tell my story of being on the West Coast and coming back to Cincinnati, starting up new ventures, investing in others' ventures, and answer any questions from the audience!

Crowdfunding: How to Raise Seed Capital
Are you startup looking to raise capital? Or perhaps an everyday investor wanting to invest in startups?

Raising early-stage capital is really HARD. Whether you're a brewery, a tech startup, or a blockchain company, there are a lot of landmines to navigate and it's hard to find nvestors. So, why would you stick with private fundraising anymore when you can host an OPO, or On-line Public Offering, where everybody can invest in.

Not only can you reach angel investors, but you can have your friends & family invest, and can even advertise to the general public... all legally. And as an aspiring startup investor you can find vetted startups to invest in right alongside angel investors and VCs!

Join Marvin Abrinica, CEO of Wunderfund, as he shares his personal experience raising capital privately and publicly for his own startups. You'll also hear a panel from several companies who've successfully raised capital using On-line Public Offerings on Wunderfund:

Tech Frontier Series: Customer Experience AR/VR
Limited Capacity seats available

What to expect from Tech Frontier?
Tech Frontier is about bringing together enterprise technology leaders with its active network of experts, venture capitalists, and high-growth startups. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have been an up and coming technology for years. However now, with enough investment in the technology, the uses for this outside of gaming not only appear to be limitless but finally accessible to businesses of any size. Join us as we discuss real-life use cases within the Retail, Industrial, and Healthcare space.

What will you experience at the event:
- Educate and expose participants on applicable use cases of AR and VR to underserved business problem sets
- Break-down preconceived barrier to entry to using AR and VR as a solution
- Showcase best-of-breed AR/VR startups

What exactly is VR and AR?
Virtual reality takes us some place else and immerses the user in any virtual environment imaginable.
Augmented reality however, takes our current reality and adds something to it. What’s a simple example to explain the two? Think Safari vs. the Zoo. VR allows you to run with cheetahs in the savanna, while AR allows you to bring cheetahs into your daily city life.

Schedule:
  • 8:30 am – Breakfast & Networking (Coffee presented by Centric Consulting + Queen City Angels)
  • 9:00 am – Opening Keynote by a AR/VR Thought Leader
  • 9:30 am – Presentations by P&G, Cincinnati Children's, General Mills, and Gensuite
  • 10:45 am - Lightning Pitches by Startups
  • 11:15 am – Open the Circus! Participants can walk through booths to demo the startup technology.

Giving Back: The Shift...the United Way's accelerator program
Caitlin has spent the greater part of her career finding new ways to use creativity for good. Early on, she dedicated her time promoting and coaching local musicians and artists as a writer, band manager and event producer. Witnessing local music’s impact on community and economic development inspired her to join ArtWorks as their Creative Enterprise Manager where she managed their business development program for creative entrepreneurs. She also ran Second Sunday on Main, a grassroots street festival in her neighborhood of Over-the-Rhine.

With a natural curiosity and a love of people, Design Impact’s focus on research and storytelling felt like a natural fit. In addition to working on community development projects, Caitlin also leads DI’s communications efforts. She has presented at the Americans for the Arts Convention, Ohio Hunger Dialogues, and the Ohio FSFB Summit, and through written pieces for ArtPlace.
Caitlin graduated from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music with a BFA in Electronic Media and a Certificate of Journalism.

United Way’s The Shift – Join United Way and Design Impact to hear how  a 100 year old organization embraces its inner startup to help bring innovative ideas to the community.
